Where, oh where, hast thou music gone?

I call it the question with so many answers. In an age where listeners can have whatever they want at the click of a button, has music sold out or, gotten lost, or changed with the times? I won't say yes or no but I'd like to give some thoughts nonetheless. Now, buckle your seat belts, folks, because I'm probably going to stab and poke around at some pretty touchy things here.

So, the reason you're reading this blog is simply to be nostalgic, intrigued, humored and probably feel a bit of frustration. There will definitely be disagreements. But let's be nice to each other because I'm not really going to harp on actual talent or impose my opinions on what music is right or wrong, good or bad. I'm open for business to music lovers, listeners and even the random passer by. Because I'll be hitting on a pretty wide range, we're likely to see a pretty wide set of demographics. Basically, what I'd like to do is put out my thoughts, and maybe share some artist trends both historic and current and let you decide. This blog certainly isn't supposed to destroy the music world. It's actually quite the contrary, although it may not seem at times. A nice constructive environment could really help define the lines and let us all learn from each other because I'm certainly not the almighty right and awesome.

Take a step back and escape your bias for just a second. Close your eyes if you have to... I'll wait... ok, I'll assume you're in a neutral place. Let's start at blues and roots and compare it to modern pop. WHOA! There's a significant contrast! So, clearly, we have a lot to talk about. John Lee Hooker vs. Lady Gaga. Elvis Presley vs. Metallica. Snoop Dogg vs. Shania Twain. See where I'm going here? Call it changing with the times if you will but that is a rather blanket-like statement. Let's explore the finer details. Let's put one controlling genre in an era against another controlling genre in an era and explore the contrast, differences, and really... what happened? Perfect example to get the gears turning: 80s Hair Bands and an onset of early Rap and Pop... let's get ready to RUMBLE!!
